William Golding – Lord of the Flies
"When you lie in bed as long as I do, you think a lot. I know people. I know myself. And I know him. He can't do anything to you. But if you step aside, he'll take his revenge on someone else. And that someone will be me." - William Golding - Lord of the Flies
It's chilling to think how quickly people, in this case young people, can abandon their humanity.
The story of a group of shipwrecked British students who find refuge on a deserted island after a plane crash.
Deprived of supervision and norms, they try to arrange their lives, taking advantage of the freedom offered by an island far from civilization.
Over time, however, groups begin to form and the situation begins to spiral out of control.
Even though this story is difficult and at times brutal, it is worth getting to know this title to realize how little it takes to gradually sink into barbarism.
Now let's see what other readers think about this book on Lubimyczytac.pl:
A brilliant novel on many levels. It's not only a story about the fragile social contract that holds us together, but also a parable about how crisis fosters tyranny and a bitter reflection on humanity.

When reason sleeps, ghosts awaken. A very good allegory of society. I read it with bated breath until the very end. Of course, one could criticize the lack of fair sex, but the form and content remain timeless, and any leitmotif productions like the TV series "Lost" pale in comparison.
