" Nothing smells as good as old books " - The Fall of Hyperion

I couldn't resist starting with this quote; it somewhat captures my experience with Dan Simmons's series. Even though I read it 20 years ago, it still ranks on the same shelf as Dune and The Lord of the Rings in my bookshelves.

Imagine a universe, a colonized universe, heading towards war. The only solution is to encounter the Shrike—the Lord of Pain, who has come from a place beyond time to announce the end of humanity. A task undertaken by: Priest, Soldier, Scholar, Poet, Detective, Captain, and Consul.

The book, which, in my opinion, was an inspiration for many subsequent authors and left a lasting mark on pop culture, without further ado, I recommend that you discover and experience this adventure for yourself.

Now let's take a look at the opinions of readers from the website lubimyczytac.pl, because many of them also consider this story unique.

Ahh, what an adventure it was! My friend convinced me to read this book. I struggled to read it from the very beginning, but by page 100 I couldn't put it down. It's definitely the best science fiction book I've ever read. The unconventional approach to the subject, the multitude of interwoven threads that come together to create a whole, truly a marvel.

What a wonderful novel, I already know the author from several books - I really liked The Terror, it's a masterpiece, I would give it a 10, but it's only a preview of the next volumes, the universe created by Simmons is amazing, the cooperation between AI and humans, the way of traveling in space... amazing, I haven't encountered such concepts since Dune, and in addition, it's an incredible journey into romantic literature (Keats), I'm enchanted and it's in my TOP 10, I recommend it

A wonderful sequel to Hyperion. Interesting plot twists and turns. The entire four-part Hyperion/Endymion series deserves to be read several times; it's something to revisit from time to time. With each subsequent reading, we understand more of the whole story and enjoy it more thoroughly.

The book of my life! A masterpiece! I also consider both parts to be simply the pinnacle of world literature. This isn't just perfect fantasy/sci-fi. There's also beauty and depth here. I believe this book will be relevant even 500 years from now, when we have self-aware AI-based androids and a colonized Mars or even beyond.
