A novel that leaves a lasting sense of rebellion, a desire to shout: "that's not right."
Perhaps it is the slightly comedic way it combines a difficult subject that makes such a strong impression on the reader.
But to the point: McMurphy - a man of questionable character - has a clever plan: instead of another prison sentence, he will fake mental illness and secure a "rest" in a psychiatric hospital. The plan seems flawless, but he didn't foresee that he might encounter Nurse Ratched there, who tolerates no deviation from her rules.
A universal story about power, the system, and revolution - which usually begins with one small spark (McMurphy), and fire is a powerful element. One cannot fail to mention the 1975 film adaptation, which remains one of the highest-rated films to this day.
