Home office - how to arrange it? Arrangements, inspirations and home peace
- by Damian Jerzy Zadora
Working from home is a dream for many – and for many it has become a daily reality. It gives freedom: it allows you to work at your own pace, in your favorite sweater, with a cup of coffee in your hand and a child in the next room. It makes it easier to be closer to your family, better manage your time, save energy and avoid commuting. But this freedom has its flip side – it requires good organization and setting boundaries.
It's easy to get distracted in the chaos of home - between the kitchen, laundry and phone calls. That's why it's so important to create a place that promotes concentration, organizes thoughts and gives the feeling: "I am professionally present here". A home office doesn't have to be big. It has to be yours.

Interestingly, we are not the first to need this space. Our fathers, grandfathers, and even great-grandparents had their own refuges – in the basement, garage, or attic. Sometimes it was a desk in the corner of the room, sometimes a workshop behind a curtain, where they devoted themselves to work, tinkering, or reading in silence. This was their space of concentration and freedom. Today, we can do the same – in our own way.
Just a dozen or so years ago a home office seemed like a luxury from Western movies – an elegant desk, shelves full of books, a lamp with a green lampshade, and next to it a cup of coffee and silence. Today, in the era of remote and hybrid work, it is no longer a privilege – it is a real need. Because when home becomes an office, we need a place that will allow us to focus, but at the same time make us still feel “at home”.
But the office is not just a function. It is a small house within a house – a space where we create, think, and plan. Well-decorated, it will become not only a comfortable place to work, but also a haven of peace, an escape from the hustle and bustle, a zone just for you.
How to arrange it to make it practical, aesthetic and... simply yours? Check out our inspirations and make working from home not only effective, but also enjoyable.
Working from the couch, kitchen table or bed can be tempting , especially when the morning is cool and the smell of coffee wafts through the house. But in the long run, this solution does more harm than good – it distracts attention, strains the spine and makes it difficult to separate work from private life. Over time, fatigue, frustration and even reluctance to do daily duties appear.
A home office – even the smallest, even the most symbolic – is more than just a desk and chair. It is a place that says, “I am in focus mode now.” It is a boundary between home and work, but also a space for growth, creativity, and creative dreams.

The office also includes:
In the rush of daily duties and technological noise, it is increasingly difficult to find a moment for yourself. That is why an office is not a luxury, but a way to regain balance and freedom of thought. It can be a separate room or a well-thought-out corner in the bedroom or hallway.
Yes, in small apartments, creating such a space can be a challenge. But sometimes all you need is a screen, a well-positioned desk by the window, a bookshelf and a lamp that spreads warm light in the evening. The most important thing is that this place is yours – that it invites you to act, to write those texts that you have in your head, to plan projects that you have been thinking about for a long time and to listen to yourself.
The office is not just a tool for efficiency. It is a space that allows you to be yourself – creative, calm, focused . And even if it is located in one corner – its significance can be enormous.
Your home office is a space that reflects your personality and rituals. It doesn’t have to resemble a stark open-space office. Quite the opposite – it should be a place you enjoy returning to every day. It’s a place where you can focus, feel comfortable, and unleash creative thinking – where aesthetics combine with functionality , and the atmosphere favors concentration and inspiration.
Regardless of your style, it’s worth taking care of a few universal elements:

Below you will find four inspiring styles that you can successfully implement in your home:
It is a nod to the timeless style and home library. The classic study is dominated by heavier, wooden furniture , a solid desk, high bookshelves, and on the walls - paintings or maps in elegant frames. The colors are based on subdued shades: deep green, navy blue, brown, burgundy . The fabrics are noble - e.g. velvet on the armchair, wool blanket on the armrest.
The whole is complemented by a lamp with a fabric shade , a clock with a pendulum, a classic paperweight and a comfortable chair with a high back. This style introduces silence, concentration and an intellectual atmosphere - ideal for conceptual, analytical work or evening reading.
Fits: people who value structure, classics, stability and concentration.

Bright walls, plenty of natural light, wooden or white furniture with simple lines - this is the quintessence of Scandinavian aesthetics. Such an office gives a sense of lightness and space , even in smaller rooms . A soft armchair with upholstery in a neutral color, linen curtains, a woolen carpet and pots with green plants (e.g. monstera, fern, ficus) - create a calm and functional environment for work and study.
A light wooden desk , a simple table lamp and a a shelf with lockable cabinets that will hold documents and allow you to display inspiring books and favorite items.
Fits: people who value minimalism, balance, closeness to nature and purity of form.
Boho is a style of freedom, imagination and sensuality. In such an office, there may be colorful cushions on the seat, a blanket with fringes, handmade macramé, a rattan armchair or old chests instead of cabinets. On the walls - posters with quotes, collages, your own sketches. On the desk - a wooden organizer, a scented candle, a journal and... a cup of unfinished coffee.
Here, plants are a must – cacti, pilea, aloe, succulents – because they emphasize the freedom and organic nature of this style . It doesn’t have to be perfect – the important thing is to be authentic.
Fits: creators, writers, artists, romantic souls and all who value emotion over form.

Modern style is all about ergonomics, organization and efficiency . A desk with a wide top, an adjustable chair, a good quality monitor, a laptop holder, shelves above the desk and drawers with organizers - everything has its place. Modernity does not have to mean coldness, however.
By adding warm light from an LED strip , potted plants and soft-textured textiles, you can create a space that promotes concentration and relaxation . Modern style is a great solution for those who need a place for intensive work, online meetings or project management.
Suitable for : practical people who work remotely full-time, entrepreneurs and IT specialists.
Whether you dream of an Oxford library study, a bright Nordic office or a creative nook with a touch of boho – the most important thing is that you feel good there . Choose fabrics, light, colours and plants that are conducive to concentration and creative thinking . Your office is not just a place to work. It is a place where your ideas can take shape.
If you care about flexibility and adapting the space to various functions – choose modular furniture . Their great advantage is that they can be freely configured, rearranged and expanded depending on changing needs. Today you need a large tabletop for drawing, tomorrow – more space for documents or an additional seat for a guest. Modular shelves, storage systems, mobile containers or folding desks will also work great in small interiors, where every meter counts.
Your office will evolve with you and your needs – from a quiet work space to a dynamic center of home creativity.
Decorating a home office is more than just placing a desk in the corner of the room. It is about consciously designing a space that supports your efficiency, concentration and well-being. Regardless of the style you choose, there are a few universal rules that will help you create a comfortable, functional and friendly space.
A comfortable, adjustable chair with proper lumbar support is an absolute must – especially if you spend several hours a day at a desk. The desk should be of an appropriate height (approx. 72–75 cm), and the top should be wide enough to fit a laptop, monitor, notebook and a cup of coffee – min. 120 cm wide this is a reasonable minimum.
Don't forget about a footrest if your feet don't freely touch the floor, and the ability to set the monitor at eye level to avoid straining your neck.

Natural light is your greatest ally. Place your desk near a window, preferably sideways to the daylight, to avoid reflections on the screen. If your office is in a less lit place, invest in a lamp with adjustable light intensity and color (warm or neutral) . It is also worth adding decorative light - a wall lamp, lantern, LED chain - which will create a cozy atmosphere after dark.
Organized space = peace of mind. Invest in:
You don't have to have everything on display - you can hide some things, leaving only the elements that inspire and energize you on display .
If you can, choose a room or area away from the kitchen, living room or children's room . In small apartments, the following will help:
Make sure you have a ritual – closing the door, turning on the light, silencing your phone – this is a signal that you are entering focus mode.
The office doesn't have to be a rigid office. Let it be a space with a soul that gives you a sense of security and inspires. Add:
Don't forget about a cork board or metal grid for inspiration, to-do lists, photos and thoughts – visually organizing goals increases efficiency.
Your office should grow with you. Choose modular and easy-to-move furniture that you can reorganize depending on your needs. Today you work alone, tomorrow you're hosting a video meeting, and next week you're creating a visual map of the project on the entire countertop.
Create a place that adapts to you , not the other way around.

A home office is not just a desk and a chair. It is something much deeper – a decision that you deserve a place just for yourself. A place where you can focus, calm down, and sometimes just... take a break from the world. It is a quiet refuge where the rhythm of the day slows down and thoughts form a clear sequence. When you close the door behind you – physically or symbolically – you leave behind the hustle and bustle, noise and responsibilities, and for a moment be fully yourself.
For many of us, it is also the fulfillment of a childhood dream – of a corner of our own, where we can hide with a book, draw something in the margins of a notebook, write down our first thoughts, which will later become a project, a blog, or maybe even a book. Our own office is a space for self-discovery – a place where no one judges you, corrects you, or bothers you. Just you and what you have to say, create, plan.
It's a small house within a house, but with a great power of action. It's a space that can be the beginning of a new idea, a career decision, the development of a passion. There's no pressure here. There's freedom - to work, to write, to plan, to think. To be.
And although many people still think that a study is a luxury – the truth is that it is not a matter of square footage, but of priority. You can create this nook in the corner of the living room, by the window, in the dressing room or even in the hallway. It is not about the size of the space – it is about the intention with which you create it.
The office is more than a function. It is a privilege that today, more than ever, can become a reality. And once you feel it, you won’t want to part with it. Because it is there – in your little space of freedom – that the most important things happen.
Your home is not just a kitchen, living room and bedroom. It is also a place for work, development and creativity . By arranging your office, you create a space that gives you freedom – thinking, planning, creating . Regardless of the square footage and budget, it is worth taking care of it.
Because today, a home office is not an extravagance – it is a wise solution and a beautiful gesture towards yourself.
