"No one rewards us for being normal" - Hugh Howey "Silo"


I won't hide the fact that I picked up this series after its adaptation into a (by the way, very successful) TV show on one of the streaming platforms. However, before the first season ended, I had the luxury of getting to know the entire story contained in these three books.

Imagine that the world outside is uninhabitable, and humanity has been confined to a multi-story underground building called the "Silo." Imagine that the people trapped there have their dreams, ambitions, and emotions.

A ready recipe for a barrel of TNT, where the punishment for insubordination is going outside and dying in cruel torment...

We watch this entire story through the eyes of the new sheriff, a former mechanic for whom repairing a malfunctioning mechanism is a priority. In this case, the "mechanism" is the Silo.

I invite you to go through all the levels of the "Silo" – from the lowest to the highest.

"Silo" captivates from the first pages. The author skillfully shows what life is like in a closed community, where every decision can lead to catastrophe. The atmosphere of unease grows chapter by chapter, and the characters are exceptionally credible and full of emotion. As the reader uncovers subsequent layers of the plot, they increasingly understand the mechanisms of this world and begin to see its brutal rules. This is one of those books that are hard to put down.

For me, "Silo" is one of the best dystopias in recent years. The book is full of tension, emotion, and well-described characters, and the concept of the underground world works flawlessly. Each chapter adds a new piece to the puzzle, until finally, the whole thing comes together into a truly moving and very powerful story. It's a book that not only entertains and engrosses but also forces reflection on how easily society can be manipulated. For me, it's an absolute top and a must-read.

"Silo" is a great choice for dystopia fans who enjoy a slow build-up of tension and a world full of secrets. Hugh Howey creates a claustrophobic and depressing, yet fascinating, place. The greatest strength of the book is the way new mysteries are uncovered. However, the pace can be uneven, and there are moments where the action loses momentum. Despite this, it's a very solid read that leaves plenty of food for thought, and it's worth giving it a chance.

Howey created a vision of the future that is both terrifying and fascinating. The world of the Silo lives at its own pace, and each level hides new stories and conflicts. The plot develops in a very thoughtful way, and even when the pace slows, you feel it's leading to something important. The surprises here are really strong, and the growing sense of danger makes it hard to put down. It's a refined and very emotional story about hope, control, and the fight for truth.
