"Sometimes it's better to leave the past behind." - M.L. Stedman - The Light Between Oceans.
A powerful story about the hardships of life and the choices we make, and how we don't always make the right decisions when following our hearts.
The novel takes place on an uninhabited island, where lighthouse keeper Tom Sherbourne and his wife Isabel try to lead a peaceful life away from the memories of the Great War.
However, after months of trying for a child and suffering two miscarriages, Isabel falls into a deepening depression, and the marriage goes through difficult times.
Then, a boat washes ashore carrying a dead man and a living infant.
A book with a very strong emotional charge, definitely memorable. Where the consequences of the past cast a shadow over all future time.
One cannot fail to mention the successful film adaptation from 2016 with an excellent cast.

I read this book many years ago, but it still remains in my memory. The story evoked many emotions in me, including sadness and compassion. Highly, highly recommend.

An extraordinary story showing moral dilemmas, touching on themes of grief and loneliness in the work of a lighthouse keeper. At times monotonous descriptions, though probably necessary to better immerse oneself in the atmosphere of the island and get to know the main character.

Touching. A moving story about love, but also about lost happiness, about longing. Typical literary fiction. I liked the book so much that I also watched the movie. Recommended, it stays with you.
