Virtually every self-respecting crime series features a mix of partners, and alongside the detective(s) there's always support from another field: a writer, psychologist, doctor, etc. In this case, we have the medical examiner, Dr. Maura Isles.
It's a combination that works really well in a crime novel, and the series, thanks to the author's trained profession (an internist), boasts quite graphic descriptions of human anatomy.
I started this series because I received the first two volumes as a gift, and then I was hooked :-) So, if you like crime novels and are a fan of "Dr. House" or "The Pitt," I can wholeheartedly recommend this series.

I love the Rizzoli & Isles series. This is where my adventure with crime novels began. I especially love those with descriptions of human anatomy and autopsies (occupational hazard). I recommend every Tess book - she will always be my favorite crime author!

A brilliantly written crime novel. It draws you in from the very beginning. I really liked the ending. Without unnecessary dragging out for half the book. The main character's personality is very well conveyed. I recommend it with a clear conscience.

This book definitely made me want to read more by this author. The action was fast-paced throughout, and once I started reading, it was genuinely hard to put down. I regret not starting with 'The Surgeon,' but it's already waiting on my nightstand :) I hope to be just as pleasantly surprised.
