Questions about this product

What is the most durable upholstery fabric?

The most hard-wearing upholstery fabrics include tightly woven fabrics, microfibre and good-quality synthetic velvets and plushes. These materials usually achieve over 100,000 cycles in the Martindale test, and selected collections even exceed 140,000. Woven fabrics resist heavy use and snagging, microfibre is easy to clean, and modern velvets often also limit liquids soaking in thanks to a hydrophobic finish.

What types of upholstery fabric are there?

The most popular upholstery materials are woven fabrics, velvets and chenilles. Woven fabrics have a distinct texture, high resistance and good air circulation. Velvets and velveteens are soft, pleasant to the touch, easy to care for and bring out depth of colour. Chenille, in turn, stands out for its fluffy, thick surface and great durability.

What is the best material for a sofa?

For sofa upholstery, velvet, tightly woven fabric or microfibre are good choices, as these materials are durable and easy to maintain. Velvet provides softness and an elegant look, and thanks to a hydrophobic coating it can limit liquids soaking in. Woven fabric copes well with friction and everyday use, while microfibre is resilient, easy to clean and suitable for families with children.

What are the properties of Toro fabric?

Toro fabric is a modern combination of chenille and bouclé yarn. It is soft, flame-retardant and highly abrasion-resistant, achieving 80,000 cycles in the Martindale test. It is also not very prone to pilling and has good colour fastness to light and rubbing.

What kind of upholstery fabric is Toro?

Toro fabric is a high-grade upholstery material made of 100% polyester, combining the properties of chenille and bouclé. It has a soft, fluffy structure with characteristic loops and a high weight of around 375–400 g/m².

What is the most fashionable upholstery fabric?

The most popular upholstery materials at the moment include bouclé, velvet, corduroy and nubuck. Bouclé delights with its soft, looped texture that warms up a scheme. Velvet and velveteen have a velvety surface with a gentle sheen, while corduroy stands out for its characteristic ribs. Nubuck, in turn, is matt, soft and feels like suede.

Is chenille a good material?

Chenille fabric is soft, hard-wearing and elegant, which is why it is often used to upholster sofas and armchairs and to make curtains. Its name comes from the French word ‘chenille’, meaning caterpillar, a reference to the characteristic fluffy construction of the yarn.

Which is better, velvet or chenille?

The decision between velvet and chenille depends on the look you prefer and how it will be used. Chenille has a soft, matt and cosy texture, but can collect small particles of dirt and pill. Velvet stands out for its smoothness, subtle sheen and elegant character, although marks, creases and pet hair are easier to spot on it.
